1) Identify where in the story there are elements of dark romanticism (refer to your notes)
2) Identify specific places in the story where the black veil represents something to do with secret sin.
For example: The minister cannot stand to see himself with the veil just like a person cannot deal with their own secret sin.

Where else do you see the black veil representing secret sin in the story? Consider how different people talk about it and react to it. How is similar to the way people would talk about and react to someone's secret sin? What effect does hiding his face have and how is that similar to the effects of hiding a secret sin?
